Monica Shields

Monica Shields, 79, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at her son’s home in North Caldwell, NJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Thiele-Reid Family Funeral Home, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny, NJ on Thursday, April 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will begin in the funeral home on Friday morning, April 5 at 9:45 a.m. then to Queen of Peace Church, North Arlington, NJ for an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. 

Born in Newark, NJ Monica lived in North Arlington before residing in Nutley, NJ. Monica dedicated over three decades of her life to Hoffmann La Roche, where her expertise and passion shone brightly as an administrator and marketing manager. Her contributions left an indelible mark on the company and the countless individuals she worked alongside which she considered her ‘Roche family’. 

Monica found her greatest joy in the company of her cherished family. Whether it was sharing laughter with her partner in crime, Roberta, or creating treasured memories with her beloved son Christopher and adored grandchildren Nikki and TJ, Monica's devotion to her family knew no bounds. She embraced every moment spent with her nieces and nephews, showering them with affection and kindness.

A passionate reader, Monica found solace and inspiration within the pages of her favorite books. She shared this passion with her grandchildren, grandnieces and grandnephews through her many visits to the Nutley Public Library. Her love for literature was only matched by her enthusiasm for adventure, as she embarked on countless cruises, savoring every moment of exploration and relaxation.

Monica's affection for dogs knew no bounds, and her heart was always filled with love for her furry companions Kirby & Magee. She held a deep admiration for all things Irish, finding comfort and connection in the rich traditions and culture. As a dedicated fan of the NY Football Giants, Monica cheered on her team with unwavering loyalty, sharing in the triumphs and challenges with fellow fans.

In honoring Monica's memory, let us cherish the moments we shared and celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Monica is survived by her son, Christopher Sepe, his wife, Rachel and two grandchildren, Nikki Sepe and TJ Sepe; her sister, Roberta Atwell and her husband, Henry. She was the cherished aunt of Theresa Barr (Kenny), Kaleigh Barr, Tara Barr, Jodi Atwell, Ryan Atwell, Brittany Fitzgerald, MacKenzie Fitzgerald, Shannon Vazquez (Raymond), Dylan Vazquez and Molly Vazquez.

She was predeceased by her son baby Richard, parents Joseph and Veronica (Caldwell) Shields and two brothers, Timothy Shields and Kevin Shields.
